As a
national charity based in Edinburgh, Art in Healthcare installs works of art
from a collection of over 1,600 works of contemporary art in a wide
range of healthcare settings around Scotland including hospitals, care homes,
hospices and treatment centres. The ART
IN HEALTHCARE exhibition at the Inverleith House Gallery in the Royal Botanic
Gardens Edinburgh, 7-16 June, explains how this national collection is used to
humanise medical and care environments and how it impacts positively for health
and wellbeing. The first floor gallery
will also present the annual Art in Healthcare fundraising exhibition to
support the work of the charity in the coming year. A wide range of work will be presented by
well established, mid-career and emerging artists, all of whom have at least
one piece in the Art in Healthcare lending collection. The exhibition will feature a range of work
by the charity’s Patrons - Dr Barbara Rae CBE RA RSA and Victoria Crowe
OBE FRSE RSA.
Hospitals,
care homes, hospices and treatment centres are very different environments to
art galleries and the experience of being a patient or visitor is often
associated with stress and anxiety. In
this situation, the opportunity to engage with visual art can offer something
very particular including reassurance, comfort and distraction. Many of the artists Art in Healthcare works
with particularly value having their art displayed in a healthcare setting
knowing that their work will have this power to connect with people at times of
need.
The Inverleith House exhibition is supported by BTO Solicitors LLP, Close Brothers Asset Management and GreatArt Supplies. Art in Healthcare is working in partnership with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh as part of the Connect with Nature Festival 2019.
