Cat Walk
By R. Taninska

Subject Matter
Reg. Number

This print, number 9 from an edition of 38, shows the head, a front paw and the tail of a black cat, the rest of the animal being masked by two vases and a jug behind which it is walking. The most striking feature of the image is the way the cat's tail exactly matches the shape of the jug handle, a shape part of whose line is also echoed by the paw at the right hand side of the picture.

The whole image is depicted in cool, subdued tones, while the light shown reflecting off the glaze of the jug at the front of the arrangement helps provide depth and a counterpoint to the muted colours. There is a very pleasing symmetry to the image and a sense of calm order.
