Duncan Pettigrew (1973-1993)was born in Edinburgh. He studied at the Edinburgh Academy and completed several months study at the Leith School of Art before he lost his battle against leukaemia. He had been offered a coveted place at the Glasgow School of Art, due to start in 1991, but was sadly unable to attend due to his illness.

He made use of a wide variety of media to create energetic and invigorating colour harmonies. Many of his works were created whilst he fought for his life and his brother noted that it was his art that helped him to keep going throughout the treatment.

Four months after his death, in 1993, Duncan's parents arranged an exhibition including 80 of his artworks which raised money, through its catalogue titled 'Love Your Art', for the Leukaemia and Bone Marrow Transplant Fund at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
