This representational painting depicts two cats – one ginger, the other tabby –sitting on a pale blue shelf or ledge next to a large green jar of tall, pale blue flowers, all against a pale lemon coloured background. An intricately patterned blue and yellow frieze separates background from ledge.
The cats stare out at the viewer with indifference, relaxed and evidently familiar within their surroundings. The realism of the painting is heightened by the depiction of shadows and reflections in the vase, as well as the softly blended patterns on the smoothly textured coats of the cats.
