Vivien Alexander is a Scottish artist born on the Isle of Arran. Alexander draws inspiration from domestic subject matter and landscapes that hold great significance to her. The intimacy of the scenes that she depicts is sharply contrasted with the use of vibrant colour and energetic strokes that bring life and joy to quite scenes of everyday life.
The composition of this painting is slightly more abstracted than some of Alexander’s other works. The viewer looks out from a seemingly higher vantage point, but the layout of the landscape is not as clear. The painting is overcome by plant life, nature engulfing the small representations of humanity that the buildings represent. The life and vibrancy of the flowers and the dancing forest that lies at the top right of the painting allow us to get lost in the vast beauty of nature.
