Vivien Alexander is a Scottish artist born on the Isle of Arran. Alexander draws inspiration from domestic subject matter and landscapes that hold great significance to her. The intimacy of the scenes that she depicts is sharply contrasted with the use of vibrant colour and energetic strokes that bring life and joy to quite scenes of everyday life.
The intensity of colour in Redpath Hill lights up the composition as if the evening sun is lighting up the valley, the rich blue of the sky contrasts with the hint of pink in the clouds. It almost looks as if the wind is rustling the leaves of the tree and the path in the lower right hand corner of the painting sets the viewer in the scene, as if this is just a moment of quick rest on the walk home.
