Cat Outram's characteristic medium is etching and she specialises in flowers and landscape. She says of her work that:
"My inspiration is light. It is usually the first thing to catch my eye: details caught in sunlight or long shadows. After that I love fine details, the texture and shape of things. Most of my work falls into one of three categories: views of Edinburgh, flowers, or collections of natural and man-made objects."
Outram was born in 1959 in Nairobi, Kenya. She emigrated to the UK in 1966 and settled in Edinburgh. She studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art College from 1977 to 1981.
Her work is exhibited in galleries in Scotland, including Edinburgh Printmakers which is where she make her etchings. Having worked for some years on a part-time basis while raising her family, now that they are older she hopes to have more time to work on more ambitious pieces.
