Gibson refuses to provide interpretations of his paintings, maintaining that they represent not narratives but significant moments in time.
James Gibson was born in Glasgow in 1948. After graduating with an Honours Degree in Art History from Edinburgh University, he taught English for several years but found that his creative interest lay principally in painting and after teaching himself the necessary skills and techniques, he held his first exhibition eight years later. His formally naive style has matured over the years, depicting a world both strange and believable.
