An exhibition of artworks made by participants who are supported by our Room for Art workshops for health and wellbeing.
Room for Art was established by Art in Healthcare in 2016 to provide a programme of visual art workshops within community spaces across Edinburgh. The programme works on a social prescription model where individuals are invited to join our creative groups by referral. We currently have five Room for Art workshops running weekly throughout the year. Each of these ‘pop up’ art studios is led by an experienced professional artist. The groups are relaxed, safe, social spaces where we nurture creativity and encourage experimentation, play and exploration with different art materials, processes and techniques. Art engagement can provide many benefits to health and wellbeing, which could include greater social connections, increased confidence, self-esteem and improved mental wellbeing.
Through this exhibition, we celebrate the therapeutic benefits of making art while highlighting the use of recycled materials and sustainable creative practices. Join us in exploring how art can inspire wellbeing and encourage a more mindful approach to reusing and repurposing materials.
Many thanks to all the organisations that have donated materials for us to use creatively. In this exhibition you will find old posters from the National Galleries of Scotland, ceramic coasters from OOTNOOltd, vinyl from Vision Signage and Graphics and wallpaper samples from Sundial Properties. If you are a business with something you think we could use creatively that would otherwise end up in landfill, please get in touch!
