Caring Spaces
Caring Spaces is our area of work delivering creative experiences for unpaid carers. We work in partnership with VOCAL (Voice of Carers across Lothian) and CoEL (Carers of East Lothian) to provide online and in-person workshops based in Dalkeith, Leith, and Tranent.
Participants work with an artist who is a carer herself, to experiment with many different art techniques including; collage, painting, clay, photography, drawing, weaving and textile work, and book making to name a few!
Impact
Carers often share that they leave with a renewed sense of energy to sustain their caring role after they are able to take ‘time out’ for themselves. Many carers say our art sessions give them vital time for themselves and help them reconnect with who they are.
Communities and meaningful connections can be formed when people are brought together through shared experience.
Our sessions can be relaxing, decrease stress, and art has been used to develop coping mechanisms to help with stress and overwhelm.
We cover a range of different art techniques in our sessions and have seen how these activities have been passed on and benefitted those that are cared for.
