Wilhelmina Barns-Graham HRSA | Summer, Screen Print, 1998

< Back to Painting, Printing and Papermaking

Wilhelmina Barns-Graham (1912-2004) was an accomplished painter and printmaker. Born in St Andrews in 1912, Wilhelmina was educated at Edinburgh College of Art from 1932-37. After graduating, Wilhelmina moved to Cornwall and became part of the St Ives artist community, developing her abstract approach to the Cornish landscape. For the rest of her life, Wilhelmina would divide her time between her studios in Cornwall and St Andrews.

Millennium Blue II and Summer are both limited edition screenprints and placed side by side. Inspired by landscape, the prints feature bold shapes and colour that are layered to give a sense of landscape and place. They are part of a series of Screenprints that Wilhelmina created between 1998 and the early 2000s.
