We are looking for a Trainee Technician for twelve months to help us get our art collection ‘exhibition ready’ and out into hospitals, care homes and community spaces across Scotland. This is an entry level role for an individual who is interested in learning more about the heritage sector in Scotland. This is a job which will pay you a wage as you gain an industry-recognised qualification through work-based learning. By the end of the twelve months with us you will have lots of hands-on experience and a Museum and Galleries Technician Modern Apprenticeship [SCQF level 7].
This role is not for graduates or for individuals currently working within the heritage sector.

You will work alongside our Technician in our art store in Leith, Edinburgh in a role that is very hands-on and will develop technical skills necessary for maintaining and managing an art collection. The main purpose of the role is to get the 300 artworks in our Edinburgh Art Store ‘exhibition ready’ by undertaking a programme of review, maintenance and repair.

Salary: £22,932 per annum [pro rata] with an increase from 1 April 2026
Term: Fixed-Term [12 months]
Hours: Three days per week [21 hours], typically Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
We offer 37 days of annual leave [pro rata].
We are a Living Wage Employer and are working towards being a Living Pension Employer. Each team member has an annual training budget.
Art in Healthcare supports flexible working. However, there is an expectation that this role will be predominantly based out our art store in Leith, Edinburgh. We also have an office in central Edinburgh.
