Art in Healthcare uses visual art to help people feel better. We bring art to people where they are, and work towards making the benefits of art for health and wellbeing available to all.
Self management is a way of living and working that means people living with long term conditions can feel more in control of their own health and wellbeing. It supports people to live their lives better, on their terms. Self management places people in the driving seat of their own wellbeing.
Taking Creative Care is a project that has been led by artists Greer Pester and Ruby Pester.
Over the past year, they have hosted a series of therapeutic art workshops, listening and learning how visual art can help people manage pain, find respite, relax and find joy in creativity. Working together with individuals online and in-person, Greer and Ruby explored, played, made art, and shared how creativity can make us feel better.
An evolving creative tool kit has been developed, which includes 32 activities. The activities have been co – designed and created by participants, art therapists, occupational therapists, mindfulness practitioners, unpaid carers and those living with long term health conditions across Scotland. They require little or no specialised art materials.
The creative activities are featured in this short film and can be viewed here here.
