The Organisation

At Art in Healthcare, we are excited, and motivated, by the possibilities that art provides to support the health and wellbeing of everyone living in Scotland. Over the last thirty years we have worked, often in partnership, to improve health and wellbeing for individuals and communities by providing opportunities to experience and engage with high quality visual art, artists and creativity.

Since 1991, when the organisation was originally affiliated to Paintings in Hospitals, we have been locating our collection of significant and valuable contemporary visual art in health and social care settings throughout Scotland to make the environments more friendly, welcoming and stimulating for patients, visitors and staff. In 2005 we became an independent Scottish charity Art in Healthcare.

We recognise the quality and breadth of our art collection and are committed to ensuring that we maximise the number of artworks on display in healthcare settings across Scotland. Statistics tell us that whilst not everyone feels comfortable visiting a gallery or museum, most individuals make use of healthcare services. Works from our collection are currently exhibited in over forty healthcare settings in locations including Ayrshire, Edinburgh and Lothians, Fife and Tayside, North Lanarkshire, the Highlands and the Orkney Islands.

We have seen, over the organisation’s history, that the arts can help to address health inequalities and we continue to strive to widen access to creative activity.

The Opportunity

Art in Healthcare is a value-led charity that is run by a small staff team and a Board of Directors. As we continue to navigate the restrictions associated with COVID we recognise the need to reconnect and re-establish our profile within community, health and social care settings. We also understand that these settings have been dramatically impacted by the pandemic and may be slower to ‘reopen’ than other sectors within society.

We wish to undertake a piece of work to ensure that our systems and processes are in line with best practice and that we are able to reassure service users that we are working safely and responsibly.

We are looking for someone with a health and safety background, and detailed knowledge of the healthcare sector in Scotland, to support this review and to ensure that we are able to adapt to and thrive in the new context in which we find ourselves.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

·      Experience of supporting charities and third sector organisations

·      Formal Health and Safety Qualification [NEBOSH or equivalent]

·      Practical experience of reviewing an organisations operations, in the context of COVID 19

·      A strong working knowledge of the healthcare sector in Scotland

·      A strategic thinker, who can also provide practical solutions

·       Friendly and approachable manner

·      Collaborative approach

·      Good written and oral communication skills.

Desirable:

·      An interest in visual art and an understanding of the value that creativity can offer to the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities

·      Contacts beyond the Central Belt

Key Responsibilities:

We are looking for someone to review the systems and procedures associated with our art rental scheme, in the context of COVID 19. We are looking for someone who is able to help us to review our current operations to include:

·      Collection Management

·      Contracts and associated communications for service users

·      Staff training

·      Transport and installation

·      Collection maintenance

·      Explore alternatives to the ‘Good to Go’ scheme

·      Undertake stakeholder consultation, as necessary

·      Other tasks, as may be necessary and are in the scope of this work

Terms and Conditions

The opportunity is offered as a freelance contract. We anticipate that the successful candidate will work with us for between two and four days in Spring 2022. This can be worked flexibly, to suit the needs of the successful candidate and the organisation.

We are able to offer a daily rate of between £200.00 and £400.00, depending upon experience. This is offered as a freelance rate, and you will be responsible for your tax and national insurance contributions.
